Sebastian Vettel is under no illusions that the Italian Grand Prix will be a trouble-free occasion for Red Bull, with Spa having proven that the blue cars are not the quickest when it comes to long straight sections.
With McLaren and Renault, for two, having been rapid last time out at fabled power circuit Spa, Mark Webber was still able to pick up second place for Red Bull although Vettel was unable to score following two collisions, a puncture, a drive-through penalty and an incorrect tyre choice.
This weekend sees the 23-year-old, who is currently placed third overall and trialling World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton by 31 points, return to the venue at which he achieved a sensational debut win for Toro Rosso two years ago.
“I have got two great memories from Monza,” the German began. “My first F1 win and first F1 pole position - so it’s good to be going back. It’s a unique circuit with a great history and an unforgettable atmosphere due to the fans.”
However, Sebastian admits that the Italian Grand Prix is likely to throw up a complex challenge. “I don’t think it will be easy for us, due to the long straights, but I’m sure we will do our best and keep fighting until the end,” he concluded.
