Lewis Hamilton keen to make it a win double in Budapest this weekend
Lewis Hamilton wants his McLaren team to give him the same car in Hungary this weekend so he can make it two F1 wins on the trot.
The 2008 world champion roared to victory in Germany on Sunday after McLaren finally hit the sweet spot of their thoroughbred race car. But it was only his second win in 10 races as the team have struggled this season.
Hamilton warned his victory may not be repeated if the weather gods are against them in Hungary.
“If the car behaves like it did in Germany, we will be there again in Budapest,” he said. “I have won in Hungary before so I can do it again.
“It all depends on how things play out. We might get to the next race and be massively off because we might overheat our tyres.”
While Red Bull boss Christian Horner admitted the defeat was a wake-up call, Hamilton refused to accept Sebastian Vettel’s lacklustre fourth place raised question marks about him.
“Sebastian has been massively consistent but you can’t win ’em all. He will be back,” added Hamilton. “You can’t get out of the right side of the bed every day.” McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh brushed off reports his job was on the line before the win.
“I don’t pay too much attention to what’s being said. We’re a great team and have two great drivers. We did the job we had to do,” he said.
