Heppenheim set to welcome Vettel home

Newly-crowned Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel will be welcomed in his home town of Heppenheim at a ceremony on Sunday

The small town in the state of Hesse said confirmed that a reception is to be held at the town square seven days after 23-year-old Vettel won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to become the youngest-ever Formula One Champion.

Town mayor Gerhard Herbert had already announced Vettel would be made an honorary citizen of the town.

Tens of thousand of motorsport fans from the region are expected to flock to Heppenheim for Sunday's celebrations. A show event in the summer featuring Vettel attracted some 120,000 people to the town which has a population of 25,000.

Vettel, who lives in Switzerland, will travel to Heppenheim from test drives with Red Bull on Friday and Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
