[Rumor]: Räikkönen in preliminary contract with Mercedes?

During testing in Valencia, one name was on the verge of everyone's lips: Kimi Räikkönen.

The Finnish world champion, who will be a season in the WRC on behalf of Red Bull at the wheel of a Citroën C4, could return to Formula 1, despite his recent statements. Indeed, it seems that Mercedes GP has signed a preliminary agreement with Kimi Räikkönen.

The shadow of Steve Robertson in the paddock in Valencia, had no other effect than to confirm this idea. The contract between Michael Schumacher and Mercedes GP expires in 2012 if all goes well. But the German automaker is preparing an alternative, the arrival of another world champion in the event of failure of German.

Last year, discussions between Mercedes-Robertson and Räikkönen were brief and did not find an immediate result. But an alternative was found.

Hello Anelise! great blog.

And greetings to Amanda, AnaRitha, Fran.

Yes about this news, I spotted a pitboard driver folder for Mercedes GP during the recent tests and it had 'Kimi' in it along side Nico and Schumacher. Now thats not by accident. There is something going on. Just how it all fits together is a mystery. For now.

It was always clear to me that Kimi will drive for Mercedes, so it was a big surprise when he didnt sign for them. Because Norbert Haug would have told Kimi well before the Alonso-Ferrari signing going public as to where they were heading and about the buyouts into Brawn. Mclaren was just a smoke screen. Kimi never was going to go to Mclaren. It was a ploy sold to the media. Mclaren saw that coming and then went for Button who was being deliberately pushed out of Brawn.

Its a shame I lost that picture which showed Kimi's name in the Mercedes GP folders.

Thanks for your comment Raptor! :)

I wish you'd find the picture... I don't doubt the rumours, but unfortunately so far that's all they are. I still have high hopes to see him back in F1, because for sure F1 won't be the same without him...
