Rally sweden started badly for Kimi Räikkönen. Nwt.se can reveal that the shy finn crashed allready during tuesdays recognising and got trouble to get trough all stages on time.
The accident happened on the Fredriksbergstage before noon, its the second stage of the 7 they drive during tuesday (the rest are driven on Wednesday).
The accident happened in a T-intersection. The other driver didnt stop and just drove into Räikkönen.
-It wasnt Kimis fault. I've talked to witnesses and with the team, sais the frenchman Jacky Jung who works for FIA and takes care of communication between drivers and arrangers.
"He was very disappointed"
The Mitsubishi Räikkönen and co-driver Kaj Lindström uses (competes in a Citroën) during recognisation got a big dent on its left side and left frontwheel was damaged. The car could be fixed, but trainingtime was lost. Since the former F1-worldchampion haven't driven Rally Sweden before the notes need to be made from scratch. It got stressful to get trough all the stages on the given time.
-He was very dissappointed and didnt want to stop and talk, says Jacky Jung who didnt know who it was who crashed with Räikkönen. The managment of Rally Sweden didnt have any information of it either.
Someone who breaks the rules might get a fine, timepenalty or become suspended but in this case there will most likely not be any punishment.
-No, everything seems like it was a accident. I dont think he drove too fast either but we can check that in computer afterwards, says Jacky Jung and says they cant driver faster than 70kms/h on the recognisation.
"Knock it off"
The usually silent finn became even more difficult than usual afterwards.
He wasnt interested in talking about it, not about anything else either.
All other drivers opened their windows and answered kindly to NWTs questions. Räikkönen just stared straight forward and drove on.
When co-driver Lindström got the question about the conditions of the stages he answered:
-Very good. We need to go. We are in a rush.
When my collegue Mårtensson later tried to take a picture Lindström held his notebook infront of camera and said: "Knock it off!"
