Webber: It's a great record to have

Mark Webber praised his Red Bull team after claiming his third pole in a row at the Turkish Grand Prix

Webber, who will be bidding for a third straight grands prix win on Sunday, edged out McLaren's Lewis Hamilton by 0.138 seconds for top spot on the grid.

The Australian's team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, struggled with a brake problem during Q3 and was almost half-a-second back in third place.

Red Bull have now taken pole in all seven races this season - four for Webber, three for Vettel.

"It's a great record, it shows tremendous pace in the car," said Championship leader Webber, who is tied on 78 points with Vettel but has won a race more.

"We are still a quick team, that is a big feather in our cap. It is a real credential to the whole team that we can come to each track and be strong.

"We have had a good run of it of late, and we need to get better on Sundays so we have done it in the last few races and that is what team's focus will be on tomorrow."

Webber initially struggled to find the right set-up for the Istanbul Park circuit but, unsurprisingly given the result, emerged from qualifying with renewed confidence.

He added: "It hasn't been the smoothest of weekends for us in terms of getting the running in. Getting ready for 'qualy' things started to get a little bit better.

"I was a little bit on the back foot going in to be honest, but I knew if I dug deep it could be OK. And it worked out for us.

"I'm a little bit more confident for tomorrow to be honest."

Webber could face a tough challenge from Hamilton as the McLaren driver will head into the grand prix armed with his f-duct system, while Red Bull opted to drop their's.

Webber, though, has backed the team's decision to drop the device, which they tested in Friday's two practices.

"We went in with our eyes wide open. It is a special project to get right," he said.

"McLaren got it right and fair play to them. We had more to lose than gain by taking risks. We are not fifth or sixth quickest, we are in the hunt, so let's consolidate.

"We don't put stuff on car to go slower and we won't start now."
