F1 makes Caribbean debut with Alguersuari

Red Bull Racing and Jaime Alguersuari made their own piece of history at the weekend when the Spaniard took to the beach in the Caribbean before parking the car on the streets of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic.

Championship leaders Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel will be pleased to know that it was Red Bull's show car which was being piloted by Alguersuari, as the Barcelona man took the headline role on a weekend which also included drifting and Porsche action plus karting.

"It has been amazing to be in the Dominican Republic," said Alguersuari, who drove in front of over 200,000 members of the general public.

"I am very happy that I shared this moment with the best audience ever. I enjoyed every minute."

The 20-year-old was later made a distinguished guest of the city by its council, having driven at speeds of 180 kilometres per hour (112mph) on sand.
