ICEONE’S RÄIKKÖNEN SOLID IN FIRST NASCAR TEST WITH KYLE BUSCH MOTORSPORTS

Following Saturday’s announcement that former Formula 1 champion Kimi Räikkönen will make his debut in NASCAR next month, the Finnish driver made his first laps around an oval track during a two-day test session at Gresham Motorsports Park with Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Räikkönen settled in quickly behind the wheel of his Toyota Tundra, posting lap times consistent with previous KBM test sessions at the half-mile asphalt track. The Finn put in over 400 laps over the two day test, working with KBM and the Toyota engineers on various chassis adjustments, shock packages, air pressure and trackbar changes to familiarize Räikkönen with the truck.

“It was a lot of fun, I really had no expectations or anything to compare it to beforehand but at the end of the day, I am really looking forward to the first race,” said Räikkönen. “It seems like KBM is a top team and I am excited to work with them.

” When asked his thoughts following the test, KBM General Manager Rick Ren stated, “On one hand, I am obviously not surprised at all with the type of experience Kimi has and his championship pedigree. But on the other hand, I am very pleasantly surprised.”

Kyle Busch Motorsports announced Saturday at Martinsville Speedway that they have partnered with ICE1RACING, the motorsports outfit of Kimi Räikkönen to drive a limited schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series during the 2011 season. Raikkonen is scheduled to make his NASCAR debut as a teammate to owner Kyle Busch in the N.C. Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 20.
