Alonso third-richest international athlete
Fernando Alonso has been labelled the world’s third-richest international athlete, on an estimated salary of 45 million dollars (£28m). That is according to the annually published list by Sports Illustrated, which sees Grand Slam tennis star Roger Federer remain on the top spot.
With Switzerland’s Federer leading the way from Philippines boxing Champion Manny Pacquiano, Alonso is the highest-placed motorsport representative as football’s Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo round out the top five.
Other motorsport personalities to feature are Valentino Rossi (8th), Lewis Hamilton (joint 13th) and Michael Schumacher (20th).
