Webber's thoughts turn to Albert Park

Mark Webber has been speaking to us about his home race and how important Albert Park has been to him over the years.

He said: “There are some very special races on the calendar and some sensational events that we race at, such as Spa and Monaco. Melbourne is clearly one of the best, if not the best, organised events on the calendar. The Europeans talk about it and the drivers like going there too. And I see more flags in the grandstands! I don’t hear anything when I’m driving, but you do sense the atmosphere – it’s good.

And he’s a fan of the actual track, having made his F1 debut here. “I like driving the ciruit,” said Mark. “It’s got a mixture of medium and high speed corners and there some low speed stuff too. It’s generally a very good track. I’ve had some more happy memories at the race since my debut in 2002, but it was a very happy first race with Paul Stoddard and Minardi. It was a shoe-string budget and a very special afternoon.

And how does he feel about his chances this year?

”Bahrain was a great injection for us, despite the final positions. We’re still learning a lot about the car, about how we’re going to compete in the races and the best way to do the GPs, which will continue in Melbourne. We’re looking to go there and get very good results – as we are with all the races this year.”
